Behind the Tales and Into the Hollow

I moved into a home across the street from a cemetery. Some people might think this is not great juju but every day I drove to and from my home I was taken aback by the stunning panoramic views. I started taking walks through the cemetery only to discover (the fact having been hidden deep within my memory) that most of my family had been buried in this specific place. I loved walking around the winding paths, reading all the names and epitaphs, the deep carved etchings styled to the dates on the stone, worn by time and Pittsburgh weather. It was easy for my mind to wonder about who the people were and what they might have done during their lifetimes. What families and friends were left behind with their partings. I thought of ghosts. It was easy to believe in the echoes of past living people when walking among the last holdouts of their remembrance.

This was the beginning of the tales.

I felt the start of the tales tickling my mind, insisting for more. And then I knew, I wanted to tell a ghost story.

At the same time, I discovered the Hollow. I was very much inspired by local street names. Some of them just painted such delicious rhythms when spoken out loud that I wanted to pour all of them into one place, a fictitious town where spirits roamed and neighbors held powerful secrets. What secrets? Well, if Nora won’t tell you, neither will I.
